Pentecost Sunday 2007

It is Whit Sunday morning or "Pentecost" as it is also called as it is the day that celebrates the time when the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus' desciples after he ascended to heaven on Ascension Day.  See how the service in St. Hilary's went below and find out what two naughty rascals in the Sunday School got up to!

The vicar has only just walked to the pulpit in order to deliver his Pentecost sermon.

All the congregation and Sunday School children were sitting nicely .................or so he thought..............................read on to find out what happened next..........

What are Adele and Tom doing here?

They are pushing the front pew forward for some reason whilst the vicar is preaching his sermon.  HOW naughty is that?

Adele is holding something over her right arm that looks like a head band.

Ah..........NOW we can see what this naughty pair of scamps are up to!  Adele is not very tall so she has even found one of the church's beautiful hand embroidered kneelers to stand on.

The vicar WAS cross!  He told them off for pushing the pew up to the pulpit and then standing on the seat.  Adele was told off for standing on the beautiful kneeler as it was only meant for kneeling on NOT standing.

However the vicar was not angry for long because he could see that both of the children had good intent even though they had gone about it the wrong way.

Adele was holding a headband that they, the Sunday School children, had made two years ago when they completed Miss Webb's lesson on Pentecost.

The band showed off the flames of fire which is one of the symbols that represent the Holy Spirit.

Oh dear!  Poor Adele has nearly lost her balance as she gave her headband to the vicar to put on his head!

Can you see what is wrong with this headband?  You may have to refer back to the lesson the children completed here

This is the headband that Emily coloured in!  She used the wrong colour blue when she should have only used red, orange or yellow.  Adele had been kind when they completed the lesson and made Emily a correct one.  She had forgotten to throw Emily's wrong one away and had taken it home thinking it was hers!

Have you noticed what Tom is also holding?  Yes, it is another Holy Spirit headband but, this time, it has ALL the right colours in.

Next

THAT is better!

The vicar now has a Holy Spirit headband with the correct colours on it.

Next

Phoebe remembered to bring her Holy Spirit headband to church today and also wanted to wear it for the service as she played the organ!

Adele and Phoebe enjoy a little chat about the time that they did the lesson those two years ago.

Next

Megan admires the special Pentecost flower arrangement in the sanctuary whilst Priscilla Jane has a short prayer at the altar to thank God for allowing Jesus to die and then send his Holy Spirit to all people so that they can enjoy all the fruit that the Spirit gives.

Collect (Prayer) for 20th April 2008

Sixth Sunday of Easter

God our redeemer, you have delivered us from the power of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of your Son:  grant, that as by his death he has recalled us to life, so by his continual presence in us he may raise us       to eternal joy; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever..  Amen.

This site is dedicated to Hilary Doreen Davies who departed this life 26 November 2003 aged 71 after 23 years of chronic illness with strokes, cancer and arthritis.  St Hilary's Church is our tribute to a brave lady who was mother to Sarah, Catherine, the late Rachel, the late John and wife to the late Owen Williams Davies.
