      (Sunday 14th March 2010)

  Mothering Sunday
is always celebrated in St Hilary's with mountains of daffodils that the Sunday School children take home to their mothers. However this year, things went a little differently......find out why and how below.....................

The daffodils for this year's Motheirng Sunday have arrived (Ambrose always brings them!) in the old rusty bucket which belonged to the late Ernie who was the churchyard gardener.

Robert Alexander volunteers to put them into the two baskets because they do look rather prettier than the rusty bucket don't you think?

Georgie looks on as does Magnifi-Cat.  However Magnifi-Cat is not too bothered to help and so decides to stay in his basket.

Adele and Priscilla Jane are upset that a leaf has broken off the daffodil they grew especially for Miss Enid!

Doesn't Prisiclla Jane look SO sad as she holds the broken leaf up for Miss Enid to see.  She asks Miss Enid if they could stick it back on to the plant but Miss Enid explains that it sadly won't work.

However Miss Enid is still VERY thrilled to receive this daffodil even though a leaf has broken off!  She explains that God loves everything and sees it as perfect even if it isn't!  She tells them that God loves them even when they do not feel perfect.

Priscilla Jane admires the daffodils alongside Eric and Syd!

Syd wants to know if a daffodil smells as nice as it looks so as you can see, he is giving them a really good sniff.........

Eric just enjoys just "being here".  He is now thinking that he loves living with his son and daughter in law SO much that he may make Daffodil Green his new home!

The daffodils now adorn the altar!

Ernest and his father in law, Eric together with Gracie's pet guinea pig, GP, have decided to hop on to the altar to check them out!

Megan enjoys chatting to them as she too admires the flowers.

Alice particularly enjoys arranging some of the church daffodils in Aunt Sal's Tearooms' old copper kettle on the mantlepiece.

Alice so enjoys her weekend job in Aunt Sal's Tearooms where she is allowed by Archie, the proprietor, to arrange her own flowers when it pleases her.

Aunt Sal's Tearooms is right next to the church and the congregation often pop in there after a morning service for a lunch time snack!

Ambrose brought all the left over daffodils from the church for her to play with and hasn't she done well?

Megan loves this delicate little daffodil which has grown in such a tiny little pot!

Don't all the cakes and pastries look so tempting!

Archie often invites Homer and Rita over to his tearooms and he especially wanted them to come over today and enjoy some lunch time refreshments because it is so cold outside.

Homer STILL clutches his bottle of fruit flavoured mineral water as he relaxes in the welcome warmth whilst enjoying a read of a local newspaper.  It is always good to keep up on the local news........

Bardsley, the bishop's dog, has come with the vicar as the bishop is away on one of his trips away.  The vicar is looking after him this time.

Homer and Rita enjoy a spot of warmth in Aunt Sal's Tearooms whilst having a spot of lunch courtesy of kind Archie who owns the tearooms. The vicar has come in for a chat!
WHERE has Homer gone?  Bardsley is keeping his seat warm so plainly they expect him to return.

Alice admires the daffodils in Rita's hat.  She has just given them to Rita because she didnt' see her in church this morning and knew that Rita would be upset if she missed out on a bunch.

The vicar has just popped back to church for a minute........he remembers that he didn't lock the door to the vicar's vestry!

Next
Alice thought that Rita may like to have some daffodils.........and Rita decides to decorate her hat with them!
Don't those daffodils look lovely in Rita's hat!  She tells Alice that she will keep them in her hat as long as they look fresh and pretty.

The daffodils remind her of her estranged son whom she had to leave when he was a small child whilst in Australia. That was a time of great sadness to her but she knew that, by leaving him, he was still going to be well cared for.

She just KNOWS that her son would love to have given them to her this morning.

Ah..............the vicar returns!

Miss Enid too has arrived with Phoebe and Alice is just taking their order.

Alice serves Miss Enid and Alice and they are now enjoying some sandwiches and cakes and, of course, a nice cup of tea!

However.....WHAT has happened to the vicar, Homer and Rita?

They have decided to go for a walk as they could see that the tearooms were soon going to be very busy as more of the Sunday School children come in to join Miss Enid as she entertains them to a high tea!

Grace arrives and is offering Miss Enid the daffodils that she had been given for her mother. She thought that Miss Enid would like to have some flowers as she has no family who would otherwise have given her some on this day, Mothering Sunday.

Emily and Amelia have joined the other girls for tea........

Can you see who loves to hide UNDER the table.............it is Bardsley of course!  The vicar, who is looking after him, may have now gone home but Bardsley thinks that he would enjoy staying in Aunt Sal's Tearooms for a little longer.....
