Trinity Flower Festival 2007

The vicar, the Reverend Ponsenby-Smyth, decided it would be a wonderful idea to have a flower festival again in the season of Trinity this year.  Trinity represents the season of the church year which follows all the various celebrations and events in Jesus' life culminating with the arrival of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.

.  The theme for the festival is also Trinity.  The altar cloth and all of the church vestments during the season of Trinity are always green.  St Hilary's has got a linen altar cloth with a hardanger green cross.  Green is a colour that represents growth in the form of greenery like leaves, grass etc.

The vicar wanted the flower festival to have a great variety of colours and greenery in celebration of Trinity.  See below how well they all have done with their flower arrangements.

Ambrose has agreed to help the flower ladies by bringing to church one of the buckets of flowers for this year's Trinity Flower festival.

Esther is not only the children's Sunday School teacher, but also one of the ladies who does the flower arranging for St. Hilary's Church.

Belle, the poodle, has decided to come along too. Now WHERE is his friend Tinker the black and white feral cat?  She is ALWAYS close by when he is in church but we can't see her here yet can we?

The very first flower arrangement that everyone will see when they come into the church will be the flowers on the font.  There is a very good reason for this.

The font is often placed at the back of a church to remind people that it is by baptism that they all enter the church.

Phoebe can be seen sitting at the church organ.  She has come in to have a little practice!

Poor Esther!  She is trying to finish this font flower arrangement but look at who is trying to disrupt her attempts?  It is Tinker of course!  We knew she couldn't be far away with Belle in church.

She is enjoying pawing the flowers in the bucket and some are falling on the floor as a result as you can all see!

Of course she ONLY wants to help Esther, but she isn't doing a very good job is she?

Next

Tom has now arrived to help out with the flower arranging.  He is most proud of himself today because he has grown THE largest sunflower ever!

Tom is showing his big tall sunflower off to Ambrose who is suitably impressed.

Esther is in the background as you can see checking out her font flower arrangement to see if it needs more flowers and greenery.

Can you also see Tinker?  She is checking out the flowers in the small bucket.

Next

Tom had wanted to arrange his sunflower in an arrangement himself but he just was NOT tall enough to put it in the vase so Ambrose has done it for him.

Ambrose has also added a few more flowers to make the sunflower feel less lonely!

Next

Adele arrived after Tom to help out and immediately had to check out Tom's sunflower and the flower arrangement!

She was MOST impressed with Ambrose's flower arranging skills!

Ambrose has decided where this pedestal with his flower arrangement with Tom's sunflower is to go.  Find out...................................................

...and here is the pedestal in situ opposite the pulpit.  Ben has decided to come and admire Tom's most magnificent sunflower resplendent as it is, the tallest of all the flowers in the vase!

Next

Alice and Adele have joined Esther as she makes a final inspection of her font flower arrangement.

Hasn't Esther done well?

Belle too inspects it and is equally delighted with Esther's efforts.

Alice is making a special small flower arrangement to go on the pulpit itself.  She really hopes that the vicar is pleased with her work.

She is having to cut some of the stems of the flowers in the little bucket though as they are too long for the arrangement.

Can you see that the local pair of mallard ducks, Esme and Ernest, have come in to the church to see what is going on?

Next

Megan is checking out the flower displays in the sanctuary.

Next

Priscilla Jane is spending a quiet time at the altar rail as she enjoys looking at the basket of flowers.

Magnifi-Cat, Syd and Sepp are also enjoying looking at the flower displays too.

It is good that Magnifi-Cat is more interested in the flowers than Syd and Sepp isn't it?

Next

The vicar is preaching his sermon on Trinity Sunday.

Alice has done him proud with her beautiful pulpit flower display hasn't she?

  • Many of the flowers seen here today were purchased from a a flower stall at the Friday Market in Stratford upon Avon.  They are actually arranged in wax. (a tub of "mini-hold wax" purchased from a dollshouse shop to be precise!).  The floral arrangement on the altar has been placed in a Stokesay Ware bowl.

  • Many thanks to Catherine Davies for making us this most beautiful sunflower for us out of fimo!  She tells us that the centre is made out of poppy seeds that she rescued from her gardener who was just about to throw them away!

Collect (Prayer) for 4th May 2008

The Sunday after Ascension Day

O God the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: we beseech you, leave us not comfortless, but send your Holy Spirit to strengthen us and exalt us to the place where our Saviour Christ is gone before, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

This site is dedicated to Hilary Doreen Davies who departed this life 26 November 2003 aged 71 after 23 years of chronic illness with strokes, cancer and arthritis.  St Hilary's Church is our tribute to a brave lady who was mother to Sarah, Catherine, the late Rachel, the late John and wife to the late Owen Williams Davies.
