The Baptism of Rachel Ann

Stephen and Esther were delighted when Esther gave birth to their first child, Rachel Ann. See how her baptism went below.............

Stephen insisted on wearing his bridegroom's outfit for his first daughter's baptism!  He told Esther that he was wearing it because  this baptism day of their first born made him just a as happy as he was on their wedding day!

Rachel Ann is a very good child and was most happy to be carried into church by her father!

Esther was already in church and waiting for them as you can see - she is just behind Stephen!

The vicar too was waiting for the star of the show, Rachel Ann, to arrive for her baptism.

You will all notice that we have another new character join St. Hilary's!  It is Bardsley.  Bardsley is Bishop Cuthbert's dog!

Unfortunately the bishop is away on a long sabbatical at the moment so Stephen and Esther offered to look after Bardsley whilst he is away.

Rita, St. Hilary's resident "lady of the road", is resting at the top of the first flight of the stairs to the bell tower.  The vicar is quite happy to let her watch the baptism of Rachel Ann as he knows she has been outside for quite a while and needs to rest.

Next

Stephen has passed Rachel Ann over to the vicar so that he can baptise her.

Alice has joined them as she wanted to see how it all went.

Has anyone noticed two other little characters who have joined them?

Next

A lady and gentleman frog have decided to check the font out!  The vicar had already blessed the water and poured it into the font.

I think that this pair of frogs think that this may be a good place to put their frogspawn in when Spring arrives!

Oh dear - but isn't it just as well that Alice has already spotted these two miscreant frogs?

She tells them to go back to their home in the local duck pond!

The frogs gave in and jumped off the font!

Next

Bardsley and Syd, the pigeon friend of Homer enjoy a little chat to the two frogs after they jump off the font.

The vicar was then able to carry on with Rachel Ann's baptism.

  • Rachel Ann is the name of my, Sarah's, deceased baby sister.  Rachel unfortunately passed away very suddenly at the young age of 18 months on New Year's Day 1963  We like to think that this page is a little act of remembrance for us as we remember her still as the years have progressed.

  • The bridegroom outfit is actually stitched to the doll - so we had to be a bit inventive here folks!

  • Cuthbert Bardsley is actually the name of the bishop who confirmed me, Sarah!  It felt so right to name the bishop, Cuthbert, and his dog, Bardsley.  Many thanks to Rachel Fritz for making Cuthbert and Bardsley.  Cuthbert will hopefully appear once we have managed to make some fitting bishop's clothes for him.  He would hate you all to see him as he is at the moment!

  • Many thanks to Frances of Buttercup Miniatures for Rachel Ann.  Rachel Ann is the new born baby from the Heidi Ott range of dolls.

  • Catherine my, Sarah's, sister, has made these characterful frogs out of fimo, a synthetic clay.

Collect (Prayer) for 20th July 2008

Ninth Sunday after Trinity

Almighty God, who sent your Holy Spirit to be the life and light of your Church:  open our hearts to the riches of your grace, that we may bring forth the fruit of the Spirit in love and joy and peace; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

This site is dedicated to Hilary Doreen Davies who departed this life 26 November 2003 aged 71 after 23 years of chronic illness with strokes, cancer and arthritis.  St Hilary's Church is our tribute to a brave lady who was mother to Sarah, Catherine, the late Rachel, the late John and wife to the late Owen Williams Davies.
